Are you 16 or 17?
Your parent or carer is responsible for you until you're 18. This means they have to give you food, clothes and the other things you need.
You probably can't get benefits unless you are
- living away from home
- caring for a child or someone else
- sick or disabled
- estranged from your parents.
You could get hardship payments of Jobseeker's Allowance even if you live at home – check with a Connexions Personal Adviser to find out.
If you're in education or on training you may be able to get an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) – click EMA to find out more.
