Contact the Police
In an emergency
If there's an emergency you should always phone 999. But remember, 999 is for emergencies only. An emergency is when
- someone's life is in danger
- someone is using or threating violence
- someone is seriously injured
- someone's property (for example their house) is being seriously damaged.
When you call 999, an operator answers your call and asks which service you want (fire brigade, police or ambulance service). Once you've asked for the police, you're connected to someone at Wymondham Police Headquarters. They will ask for your name and address, and ask you to tell them what's happened.
When the call's finished, a police officer will be sent to you if needed.
If it's not an emergency
Often people contact the police about things that are important but aren't emergencies. You may want to give the police information, ask for some advice, or report a crime.
There's a few ways to get in touch with Norfolk Police when it's not an emergency:
- phone the police non-emergency number 0845 456 4567
- text the police on 07786 200777
- email the police – click Email Norfolk Police
- go to a police station or Police Information Point.
